Vertically Integrated Utility Transformations
TRUenergy (TXU) Sale & Restructuring: Senior leadership in the $8B+ sale of TXU to Singapore Power and then China Light & Power. Oversaw the formation of TRUenergy and post-sale restructuring.
Dispatch Rights Optimisation: Renegotiated the Master Hedge Agreement (first-ever dispatch control deal done in Australia) for the then IFM-owned Newport and Jerralang Power Stations to prevent uneconomic outcomes under outdated contractual terms.
AGL Asset Swap (TIPS to Hallet): Initiated and executed an asset swap to reposition a stranded Torrens Island PS into a contracted position at Hallet, preventing significant spot market earnings risk exposure.
Retail Strategy & M&A Insight
Sun Retail & Power Direct (QLD): Led internal valuation that avoided overpriced acquisitions. Redirected strategy to organic growth, later proven accurate as competitors posted multi-million dollar losses.
Embedded Retail Evaluation (Dodo): Advised StarHub & MyRepublic on the acquisition of Vocus including Dodo Power & Gas, bridging investment finance and retail energy exposure.
Project Development & EPC Execution
Tallawarra Power Station (NSW): End-to-end EPC responsibility including site acquisition, regulatory approval, commissioning, project finance and hedging.
Wattle Point & Cathedral Rocks Wind Farms (SA): End-to-end greenfield projects including EPC, project financing and grid integration.
Aurora Thermal Storage Project (SA): Project head for innovative BESS and TESS, including the connection to the only DCA (privately owned HV interconnector in Australia). Secured Federal (Modern Manufacturing Initiative) and private equity funding for technology development.
Renewables & Firming Strategy for IPPs
Infigen Energy Strategy: Led a company-wide strategy to stabilise earnings through structured sales, debt restructuring, and merchant wind firming via innovative hedging structures, including the first-ever MWh wind hedge and proxy revenue swap.
PPA and BESS Pipeline: Supported and executed PPA offerings to various off-takers, Ross River Solar Farm enhancement, and project business cases for 7 greenfield batteries for a large private equity buyer.
Gas, Hydrogen & Infrastructure Modelling
Federal Gas Market Reviews: Authored scenario-based modelling for the Department of Industry and the Office of the QLD Gas Commissioner to forecast LNG impacts, domestic shortfalls, industrial buyer impacts, contracted positions and pipeline impacts.
Pipeline Valuations (MAPS, QGP, EGP): Provided demand/earnings modelling and acquisition advice for North American buyers and Brookfield.
Hydrogen Hubs & LNG Feasibility: Advised on Han Ho, Jet Zero, SUN HQ and modular LNG transport, including upstream economics and pricing models.
Transmission Modelling focused on a potential upgrade opportunity across the 4 x 330kV lines between Snowy and Yass/Canberra. Determining the net economic benefit and whether the augmentation would satisfy the RIT-T requirements.
Investor Due Diligence & Asset Strategy
Due Diligence on Boco Rock, Taralga, Gullen Range, Silverton, Gunning, and Crookwell wind farms, as well as the Redbank coal-fired power station and the Green State Power portfolio, which primarily consisted of hydroelectric power with a small amount of wind and debt funding options. Identified opportunities for Aggreko to connect its modular shipping container equipment to the grid for opportunistic revenue purposes.
Castleton Commodities (LDH Energy): Authored a comprehensive strategy paper assessing acquisition targets, market dynamics, carbon pricing, project debt funding options and interconnector trading revenue opportunities.
Brookfield Bid Support (MAPS): Provided full valuation, purchase strategy and risk insights for the competitive bid process.
North American LNG Player: Delivered gas-to-power and small-scale LNG valuation for Australian market entry.
